St Neots pair shine at 2015 Wallingford Regatta
The St Neots Rowing Club pairing of Josh Davies and Fergus Mitchell gave some well known rowing clubs a real fright with a stellar outing at the Wallingford Regatta which took place on the 2000m Olympic rowing lake at Eton Dorney on May 3rd 2015.
In what was a highly competitive field with 16 entries from 13 different clubs, including a number of internationals, the St Neots crew bagged second place in the final of Junior/School Double Sculls (JSchA.2x) for the Chamber of Trade Cup, only being beaten in the final by the GB pairing rowing for Nautilus.
Talking about the event, Josh Davies, said,
We woke up at 4am which was absolutely horrible and our heat was at 7:45.
There was a massive headwind the whole way down the course. We led the race to the 1000m mark and then got rowed through by the Norwich B crew who beat us by 0.2 seconds. Still we made the final with the slowest qualifying time of 7:52 which placed us in lane six.
Commenting on how they got on in the final, Josh said, “In the final we had an average first half of the race and remained about 4th/5th with 500m to go. Then we put in a huge last 500 breaking clear of Burway and pushing through the Norwich A and B crews and finishing 2nd behind the GB Junior Double who beat us by 15 seconds. Our time was 7:18.
