Strong Showing for St Neots Rowing Club in prestigious ‘Pairs Head’ rowing event
On Saturday the 4th of October two junior crews from St Neots RC competed in the Pairs Head of the river race on the Thames from Chiswick to Harrods Wall.
The river was closed for the event as more than 500 boats raced down the 4,500 meter course on a fast running ebb tide.
St Neots junior rowers Fergus Mitchell and Josh Davies (pictured) boated from the Fernivall boat house and won the junior under 18 double scull event in a time of 14.04 beating 43 other crews from all over the country. The boys entered the Pairs head of the River race, competing and winning the J18 double scull, in a time of 14.04min
Their time was the 11th fastest time of the day out of 536 competitors.
St Neots junior girls, Louise Shorten and Zoe Adamson also took part in the event this year. The size of the field and nature of the course was a challenge they relished, and the girls finished a strong 8th out of 25 competitors in the Women’s junior under 18 event. This is Louise’s first year at under 18 and Zoe is still only 15, so the experience was an important part of their development as elite rowers.
