St Neots success at Bedford Regatta
St Neots Rowing Club sent a large contingent of juniors and ladies to take part in Bedford Sprint Regatta on Sunday, and came away with 6 wins overall over the 660 metre sprint course. The weather was fair with occasional light head or cross winds so the conditions were pretty good. Most winning crews competed in hard fought heats to get through to the finals.
In the high level IM2 double, juniors Fergus Mitchell and Josh Davies beat City of Oxford by 2 lengths, and the same winning distance was achieved by the women’s masters E double crew of Ali Brown and Helen Knowles, beating Marlow.
For the rest of the juniors, Voirrey Taylor and Kate Lyster beat fellow club members Zoe Adamson and Molly Harper in the final of the women’s junior 15 doubles event, having beaten 7 crews to reach the final. And in the women’s junior 15 singles event, Kate also beat City of Oxford by 2 lengths. Voirrey Taylor had her second win in the IM3 singles event with a 1.5 length win over Sudbury, and Zoe too successfully beat Sudbury by a commendable 4 lengths in the J16 singles race.
The ladies novice coxed 4 had a good experience, putting in a good performance in their first event and the ladies IM3 8 was a mix of juniors and ladies but they didn’t manage to win their heat.
The club hosts its annual regatta over the weekend of 26 and 27 July in St Neots, a great weekend for spectators to cheer on their local club. And in the week running up to this important weekend, 4 senior crews comprising 2 men’s and 2 women’s will be rowing hard to win back the John Jenner Trophy at Cambridge Bumps week.
Club Captain Ali Young said:
It was good to see so many juniors and women taking part at Bedford and a great day out was had by all the rowers and supporting members. We are all very much looking forward to some great racing and home successes at our regatta in 2 weeks’ time.”
